Sweep–The Movie

So they’ve finally announced it in Variety–Sweep might become a movie. Here’s a link for more info:

I don’t know much more than you do, at this point–Alloy, which owns half of Sweep, made the deal. But I really love the screenwriter they’ve hired for the adaptation–he adapted one of my favorite movies, Chocolat, and has done several other terrific movies, so I feel like I’m in good hands.

But I don’t know anything about the schedule or timeline or casting–I won’t be involved in any of that. The author usually isn’t, unless they’re much bigger and more powerful than I am!

Thanks to everyone’s good wishes, and for all the excited tweets and posts! It’s so gratifying to see!

What’s really perplexed me is all the negative comments on some of the film sites, with people hating on Sweep without having read any of them, and saying it’s just like Harry Potter and Twilight. It’s so weird! Why don’t they read one of them first? Then they can hate on it if they want. It’s the dissing without knowing what they’re talking about that’s freaking me out.

But anyway: Sweep movie, possibly. Many things can still not work out. But my fingers are crossed. Thanks so much for all your support!

Cate, screw the haters! You can’t please everyone & there’s always gonna be haters. The only people you need to focus on are your fans! The Sweep series is nothing like Harry Potter or Twilight. I think your books are BETTER!! They’re more real because wicca is real & so is witchcraft! I have loved your books for many years! I bought the first book in the Sweep series years ago & every now & then, i would read it again. I re-read the first book a few months ago & have since been buying the rest of the series on ebay! It’s nice that the books are small, bc then im able to read a few a day, but lately, I’ve been getting the thick books with 3 stories in one. I love the artwork on the covers! Im thinking that the barbed wire heart would make a nice tattoo one day!

But thank you for everything Cate! Your books have helped me get through a lot of stress lately. When i can’t stop thinking about all the bad stuff in my life, i go live in Morgan’s world for a few hours & i love her life! I used to study wicca/white magick over 10 yrs ago & i loved it. Being connected to nature was such a beautiful thing & i havent felt that serenity & peace since then. Then my mom found some wicca books & freaked out, accusing me of devil worship!! My parents are a lot like Morgans parents.

I reallly hope they come out with movies for the Sweep series!! I hope it’s just like what I’ve imagined all these years!

Cate! Your books are amazing!!!!! You have to make them into movies! this summer my mom told me to read your books and since then I haven’t been able to stop because they’re to good! The haters are stupid so don’t listen to them. Keep writing books because you are seriously talented and amazing. My mom should thank you because seriously, before I read your books I didn’t really enjoy reading and my mom would always nag on me to read, but now im reading without her trying to get me too.

I’m a 28 year old male. I read these books in my late teens, and to this day STILL enjoy them, despite their being youth novels. I would LOVE to see movies made of these.

Somehow I became extremely immersed in the world of Sweep. The characters felt real. The world felt real. 4 years into an Honors Degree in English, I still cannot complain about these books, and that is saying something!!

I forgot to add… my mother when I was 17 or so had bought these books in some “cheap bin” of books for like 2 dollars each (book 1 and 3). I read Book of Shadows… and was so blown away, I took MY hard earned money and bought the other 12 books… then a girlfriend when I was 18 bought me Night’s Child… and you also eventually released Balefire, which I bought and loved.

    Keep up the good work.

P.S. I sincerely hope Hollywood doesn’t butcher your stories. These deserve a good film.

Greetings from Italy! Hi Cate! I’m 28 years old and I have been looking for your books for years! Since I discovered them surfing on the web. Unfortunately the italian editor decide to stop the publishing few years ago…but this summer…magic happened! Here in my town a new bookshop opened and they have been able to find all the SWEEP books for me! I am reading all of them (now I am at SPELLBOUND). I’ve had to bought FULL CIRCLE and NIGHT’S CHILD in English because they were not translated into Italian but, hey…who cares! I’m thrilled by this series! Thank you Cate! And let’s hope for the best for the movie! Now I’m going back to Morgan, Hunter and Cal…I wanna see how tjis is going to end!

What! Sweep is nothing like Harry potter or twilight! Sweep is way better then them!

I started to read the books at school and fell in love with them, I know a lot if people who would watch it as a movie.

I hope you do make a movie out of it because I been picturing in my head what it would look like as a movie.

It is nothing like Harry Potter or Twilight. I am not a big series reader but I absolutely love this series! It has actually opened the door to me being interested in other series and actually having a reading list. These books are amazing and are very will written. I advise teen fiction fans to read these (you will not be disappointed). My students love them as well. If this turns into a feature film or even a TV series, I will watch it. I just hope they take their time to really let people see who the characters are and their dynamics. I feel like the don’t grasp the books well enough and I don’t not want this wonderful series to be wasted.
